Neapolitan author songs from 1890 to 1930 – Stage on the classic neapolitan canzone : diction , style, interpretation
Alongside opera, operetta and Lieder, Neapolitan author songs occupy a privileged place in my classical repertoire. Always curious in the search for unpublished or little know works, I have collected and recorded four CDs of compositions and duets from the golden age of Neapolitan song which remain carefully preserved in their traditional beauty, precisely because they are untouched, either rarely performed and even forgotten. Faithful to the classic lyrical approach of Neapolitan musical and tradition as well as to my own Neapolitan origins, I have comprehensively interpreted our melodic and cultural identity, convinced first hand by Roberto De Simone’s assertion that they have too often been humiliated “by those annoting and amateurish demands for innovation and interpretation”.
